‘Best Apprentice Day yet’ at our Devizes Office

by T H WHITE on April 25, 2024

A fortnight ago, 22 apprentices across an array of our divisions and depots took part in our annual apprentice review day at our Devizes Group Office.

Participants represented our Agriculture, Construction, Dairy, Groundcare, Energy Fire & Security, and Lorry Cranes (trading as Palfinger UK) divisions across eight depots. Job roles ranged from business administrator to cranes fitter, from agriculture engineer to construction service apprentice.

Apprentices undertook a series of technical tests and interviews with our HR team, and filled up on pizza for lunch. CEO Alex Scott also took the time to speak to each apprentice and discuss their career paths and aspirations with T H WHITE. He was thoroughly impressed with the level of talent coming through the business and described the event as the ‘best apprentice day yet!’

Our Groundcare Sales Manager, Harvey Brooke, hosted the Spider remote-controlled mower challenge on the field using our Groundcare division’s demonstration model. The aim of the challenge was to control the mower round the circuit of cones in the quickest time. The fastest time of day one was Toby Smith with a time of 1:48, with Warren Hibberd achieving the quickest time of 1:32 on the second day.

To calculate the final results, each candidate’s ‘on the job’ assessment from their managers was combined with their technical scores.

Congratulations to our winners:

Year 1 Winner: Fred Perry, Agriculture, Marlborough
Runner up: Josh Northeast, Energy, Fire & Security, Devizes
Year 2 Winner: Charlie Cooper, Agriculture, Marlborough
Runner up: Arthur Swiffen-Brind, Agriculture, Knockdown

Apprenticeships offer an excellent career path, providing hands-on industry experience for motivated candidates aged 16 and up. Lasting 4 years, they combine college-based learning with workplace training. Completion leads to an NVQ Level 2 qualification, with many advancing to Level 3 which is the equivalent to an A Level.

We welcome applications all year round across seven of our divisions. If you would like to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities at T H WHITE Group, please contact Joe McTiernan, Human Resources Manager, at 01380 722381 or email joe.mctiernan@thwhite.co.uk.
