Back in the 1970s T H White built the first grain storage facility for Ridgeway Grain Limited, a farmer-owned grain storage and marketing business at Membury, near Hungerford. That pioneering enterprise was built on a World War II airfield and over the years T H White has made additions for Ridgeway increasing the storage capacity to 28,500 tonnes.
Now, as the first part of a 10 year development programme, T H White is adding a further extension to the flat floor store which will increase storage capacity by 3,500 tonnes in time for the 2005 harvest.
After completion of the work, the Membury site will include 10,000 tonnes of dedicated storage for oilseed rape, a 10,000 tonne flat-floor store for wheat, 15 750-tonne grain silos and 11 holding bins.
T H White is also installing an additional 77-tonnes-per-hour grain dryer and is managing an upgrade of the site’s main electrical transformer to handle the increased load. |
